Omniva LT: next-generation parcel sorting technology
The leading parcel delivery service provider and operator of the largest parcel locker network in the Baltic States and Lithuania – Omniva – opened the most modern logistics center in the Baltics in September 2024 at Kaunas Free Economic Zone (FEZ). The centerpiece of the parcel sorting terminal is the automated Equinox system, which allows parcels to be sorted directly to locker level, reducing processing cycles to the absolute minimum. The significantly increased operational capacity allows Omniva Group to strengthen its position as a primary logistics partner in the Baltic region.

R. Beskajevienė, Director at Equinox Europe explains: "At Omniva LT logistics center, an innovative automated parcel sorting line has been installed – this is a completely next-generation, faster, and more reliable parcel sorting technology developed by Equinox group of Lithuanians and Dutch. It allows parcels of various sizes and weights to be sorted into 600 different directions. All mechanical system parts were manufactured at Equinox division in the Netherlands, while the automation was developed by specialists in Lithuania. This solution was implemented for the first time in Europe."
"The efficiency and accuracy of the parcel sorting line were planned from the outset to meet not only the needs of Lithuania, but also those of other Baltic countries. Additionally, this line is designed to handle much larger parcel flows from Western countries, providing us with a capacity reserve," – said Kastytis Valantinas, Omniva board member and COO, during the opening of the logistics center.

Omniva LRH sorter
A unique Equinox solution was designed for the Omniva LT project, enabling the complete automation of the parcel's path and reducing its time spent in the logistics center. This solution includes several key components:
✅Two LRH type sorters are designed for sorting small parcels. One sorter is dedicated to sort parcels within Kaunas city and has 200 exits, corresponding to the delivery zones in Kaunas. The other sorter has 400 exits, corresponding to the distribution directions across regions in Lithuania. These sorters process small parcels up to 15 kg, and the combined nominal throughput of these two systems is 16,000 single trays/hour or 8,000 double trays/hour. In the exits, as parcels are sorted, they are immediately directed into specialized transport bags.
LRH type sorter is the latest model of Equinox LR sorter, featuring an additional recirculation function. Its design allows for a parcel induction station at floor level. Like LR sorter, LRH sorter is modular, compact, and uses Left-Right bi-directional slide tray sorting mechanism. Additionally, the latest tray technology enables the transport of a larger parcel across two trays, allowing for the sorting of larger items.
✅ Rotating wheel sorter is designed for sorting large parcels. This system features 40 exits, corresponding to regional distribution directions. It handles heavy parcels up to 31 kg and large items with a maximum length of 80 cm. The nominal throughput of this sorter reaches 3,000–4,000 parcels per hour.

Rotating wheel sorter
✅ Two pre-sorters – primary sorting systems designed to direct parcels either to LRH sorters for small parcel sorting or to rotating wheel sorter for large parcel sorting.
✅ Tippers – automated parcel unloaders that transfer parcels from containers onto the conveyor feeding line.
✅ Singulators – automated parcel separation devices designed to arrange parcels in a single-file order on the feeding line, ensuring smooth and efficient automated induction into the sorting system.
✅ Scales and scanning tunnel – complementary systems used for parcel identification, measurement, and weighing to ensure initial parcel distribution based on the type of sorting equipment. Parcels are scanned from all six sides.
✅ Conveyor system – designed for both manual and automated parcel feeding into the sorting system, as well as for connecting all key components of the system.
